My name is Prem, and I am a business student in Richmond, Virginia, originally from Perambalur, India. My family has a textile and garment business, and it has always inspired my interest in retail, customers, and how businesses grow.
My Education
Currently, I am pursuing a Master of Science in Business at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). This is part of a partnership program with Christ University in Bengaluru. Because of this, I get the best of both worlds. First, I built a strong foundation in India. Now, I am gaining hands-on, practical learning in the United States. My focus areas are sales and marketing, since understanding customers is the key to growing any business. In addition, the program has connected me with classmates and professors from diverse backgrounds. This has broadened the way I think about business and leadership.
Life as a Business Student in Richmond
Moving to Richmond has been one of the biggest steps of my life. Living in a new country has taught me independence, confidence, and how to adapt quickly. In class, I have worked on real-world projects. For example, I researched private label brands and customer loyalty. I also analyzed target audiences for marketing campaigns. Outside of class, I enjoy exploring new places, trying different food, and meeting people from different cultures.
What Drives Me
Above all, I am driven by curiosity and a desire to grow. Whether it is a class project, a new city, or a new conversation, every experience teaches me something. Therefore, I want to build a career that blends business knowledge with a creative, global perspective. At the same time, being far from home has made me value my roots even more. Consequently, I carry the lessons I learned growing up into everything I do.
